This former petrol station site, which is currently being used as a car wash, will be developed to provide 22 high end apartments, over 250m² commercial space and basement car parking, bringing new life into Whetstone town centre.
The development features a spacious communal rooftop amenity, plus a set back top floor with two exclusive penthouses, five further storeys of residential accommodation, a ground floor level of commercial space and two basement levels. The homes range from one to three bedrooms and will be finished to a high specification, each with either a large private terrace or recessed balcony.
The 1.1 hectare infill site is located on the High Road and the periphery of the main retail zone in Whetstone. By providing new commercial opportunities with two ground floor retail units, the scheme will have an active frontage, consolidate the High Road offer and connect the more distant anchor store back into the town centre.
Responding to the immediate context of large individual retail and commercial blocks, the development reads as one distinct element with subtle changes in massing and treatment. A combination of large windows, deep brickwork reveals and simple palette of materials creates an interesting elevational reading. Powder coated screens add to this visual richness whilst ensuring privacy. Brick is the dominant material, whilst the top storey is made up of transparent and opaque glazing panels for a luxury finish to the penthouse.
The scheme will see the regeneration of a prime town centre brownfield site with a sustainable mix of uses that will maximise its potential to create a high quality addition to the streetscape and enhance the local environment.
