Premier Inn, Cambridge

New hotel development at the gateway to the city of Cambridge

The 121-room Premier Inn hotel occupies a key location on a busy junction at one of the main gateways into Cambridge city centre. Ranging from four to six storeys, the scheme is in keeping with the local context and features the traditional brick associated with much of Cambridge’s architecture.

Within a tight budget, our design was born out of two key constraints: an awkward site configuration and the desire to be respectful of potential future developments on adjacent land. Public realm and highway improvements became central to the scheme as a result, including new cycle and bus routes. In addition, a public arts strategy has been developed, ensuring the scheme contributes to the regeneration of the area and becomes a valuable part of the visual and cultural landscape in the city.
